If you would like to receive the church newsletter via email, please call the church office to give us your email address or go to our website, www.oslm.net, click on church, click on Current Events, and click on “The Vineyard Newsletter.”  On that screen you can sign up for the email newsletter.

For those who do not have access to the internet, there are copies available in the back of the sanctuary on the triangular shelf and also on the table in the narthex.

ADVENT WORSHIP Wednesday, November 30, at 7 p.m., “THE PLAN” (led by OSLS Students in Grades 3-5).  We see our need for a Savior as God’s PLAN takes us from the darkness of sin to the light of Christ.

SUNDAY SCHOOL HELP NEEDED!

Would you prayerfully consider helping in our 1st/2nd Grade Sunday School class?  We are looking for an assistant who should attend regularly, but with no class preparation required.  We also need substitute teachers for our on-call sub list.  Please call the church office or Sunday School Superintendents Rob and Jill Santos if interested.

LINEN COMMITTEE NEEDED

We are looking for volunteers who would like to be on a team to keep our tablecloths clean and pressed after they are used for various events, i.e. Advent by Candlelight, banquets, etc.  If you are interested in heading this effort or volunteering to wash and dry, please contact Joe Ryno in the church office.

NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL

Find and dust off those beautiful nativity sets you have stored away.  OSLS students and their families and members of Our Savior are asked to bring their Nativity Scenes to share with others this Advent season.  We will display the crèches along the back windows of the church sanctuary.  We hope to see many different cultures and countries represented from around the world.  No nativity scene will be turned away.  If it has special meaning for you, it will be wonderful to share.  Set-up will be on Monday, November 28, from 4-6 p.m.  They will be on display at the first and second Advent services through Sunday, December 11.  You may pick up your nativity sets on Monday, Dec. 12, to take home for your enjoyment.

Copies of our school newsletter, The Mane Events, are available in the back of the sanctuary on the triangular shelf.

Souper” Challenge

OSLS students are collecting soup cans for the food shelves in our own community during November-December.  Anyone can help by bringing soup to the Loaves and Fishes Bin in the gym.  Our God is so generous.  Help us live it to the fullest and share it with others.

Family Fun Night for School & Church

“Family Fun Night” has been transformed into “Restaurant of the Month” for November!  For the entire month of November, Sansar (Authentic Indian Cuisine Restaurant), located at 2220 First Street, will give Our Savior Lutheran School 20% of pre-tax sales!  This offer is available all day, dine in or take out!  Please visit their

website at www.sansarindiancuisine.com for menu items and restaurant hours.  Be sure to bring the flyer with you when you visit the restaurant.  Flyers are available in the back of the church on the triangular shelf, in the school office, or on our website.

School Chapel Service

We invite members of Our Savior to join the school on Thursday mornings at 8:35 a.m. for our weekly chapel service.  Come! Grow with Us! ______________________________

DROP AND SHOP

The cheerleaders want to offer a service to the families of OSL (and raise some $’s to buy items for their December visit to Shepherd’s Gate)  by babysitting Our Savior Lutheran children (Preschool through 4th grade) in the gym on Saturday, December 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Older siblings are welcome as long as they are OSL children as well.  All of the Cheerleaders, Mrs. Bortnem and Mrs. Cortez will be present to babysit/supervise.  They will be watching the children while parents go off and do their Christmas shopping!!  They will also be offering Christmas wrapping services on a donation basis.

The cost for babysitting will be $5.20/hour per child.  There will be fun things for the kids to do while they wait for their parents to return.  A snack will be provided, but the child should come with their own lunch if they are planning on staying for several hours.  Questions?  Contact Laura at 447-2082, ext. 241.

GOOD NEWS FROM SCRIP!

Beginning in December, Safeway gift cards will once again be available through our Scrip program!  Gift cards will be available in $25 and $100 denominations.  We are able to purchase these cards at a 3% discount which, in most cases, is more beneficial than the escrip rebate which is between 1% and 4% depending on the amount you spend each month.  Please be advised that purchases made with a Safeway gift card are not eligible for accumulation for any other charitable giving (escrip), rewards, rebate, airline miles, or awards program.

Stop by the Scrip table today to see all of the gift cards and certificates that are available through this fundraising program!

THE CHRISTIAN READING CLUB meets on Tuesday, December 20, at 7 p.m. in Room 8.  All interested readers are invited to attend.  The book discussion will be “The Case for Christmas:  A Journalist Investigates the Identity of the Child in the Manger” by Lee Strobel.  You may obtain the book in Steve’s office.

Thank you to everyone who baked, bought and helped to sell a full table of desserts, and grape tomatoes, for Care Services’ Bake Sale Fundraiser!!  Our efforts were well rewarded and we continue to provide assistance with food, rent, utilities, bus fare, car fuel and other everyday necessities to those in need.  Again, many thanks.                      Theresa Scharlemann

Women of Our Savior…

February 10-12, 2006, is RETREAT WEEKEND, a time when the women of Our Savior will travel to Santa Cruz to unwind, enjoy the peace and beauty of the ocean, have fun and fellowship with other women of faith, and spend some much-needed time in worship and prayer.  If you’re looking for a break from the demands of a hectic personal and/or professional life, perhaps a weekend away is just what you need!

This year we’ll be staying at a new location – the Villa Maria del Mar retreat center.  You may view the retreat center online at www.villamariadelmar.org.  Most of the accommodations will house 2 women per room, but there are a limited number of single rooms available that will be given out on a first come, first served basis.  The cost of the weekend is $190 which pays for 2 nights lodging and 6 meals.

To reserve your spot, look for the reservation table after the service today or call Lynn in the church office at 447-1246, ext. 230.  Reservations will be taken throughout December until our limited space is filled.  So, don’t wait too long to sign up because this is an opportunity not to be missed.  Please consider joining us for a relaxing, fun-filled weekend!
