NEW OFFICE HOURS

To ensure proper office coverage, our new hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Marriage Anniversary Thanksgiving

It is a Thanksgiving tradition at Our Savior to recognize those couples having wedding anniversaries that are divisible by 5.  Let us know in the church office if your wedding anniversary should be included in the Thanksgiving Day bulletin.  We should praise God and give thanks for all those who have mastered the art of making a marriage work, especially in these days when there is so much pressure on any couple.  Let us in on your celebration, please.

Men’s BBQ at Mark McDonald’s at 4 p.m. today.  Yes, we are going to McDonald’s – to Mark McDonald’s house for a Bar-B-Q dinner.  All men of the congregation 21 years of age and older are invited to attend.  No set cost – we’ll do a free will offering to help cover the cost of all the food and goodies.  In the midst of our food and fun, we’ll take some time to talk about the programs and activities that we would like to have in a Men’s Ministry Program here at Our Savior.  Hope to see you there!

The Christian Reading Club meets on Tuesday, November 15, at 7 p.m. in Room 8.  All interested readers are invited to attend.  The book discussion will be “The Prayer of Jabez” by Bruce Wilkinson, ISBN 1-57673-733-0.

Our Savior Works for Habitat for Humanity in Livermore

A  small but mighty force of four turned out for a building day at the East Bay Habitat project just off East Avenue.  The group sawed, hammered, and put structures in place on several two-story homes under construction in the court off Hayes Street.  Working from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. along with other volunteers, supervised by trained workers, the group enjoyed being a part of this Christian organization and its worthy goal of glorifying God through building.

The Habitat ministry is based on the conviction that to follow the teachings of Jesus we must reflect Christ’s love by caring for one another.  True love shows itself in action.  The “theology of the hammer” has made possible decent, affordable housing for over 200,000 families worldwide.  Because these homes are built using volunteer labor and contributions of supporters, they can be sold to worthy buyers at lower than market prices using interest-free loans.  Each buyer must put in 500 hours of “sweat equity” to qualify.

To join up with future OSLM work days, call Jacki.  Or you may just go out and work for a day on your own by signing onto the website: eastbayhabitat.org and click on “volunteer.”

FROM OUR SCHOOL

Find and dust off those beautiful nativity sets you have stored away.  OSLS students and their families are asked to bring their nativity scenes to share with others this Advent season.  We will display the crèches along the back windows of the church sanctuary.  We hope to see many different cultures and countries represented from around the world.  No nativity scene will be turned away.  If it has special meaning for you, it will be wonderful to share.  Set-up will be on Monday, November 28, from 4-6 p.m.  They will be on display at the first and second Advent services through Sunday, December 11.  You may pick up your nativity sets on Monday, December 12, to take home for your enjoyment.

Souper” Challenge

OSLS students are collecting soup cans for the food shelves in our own community during November-December.  Anyone can help by bringing soup to the Loaves and Fishes Bin in the gym.  Our God is so generous.  Help us live it to the fullest and share it with others.

Family Fun Night

“Family Fun Night” has been transformed into “Restaurant of the Month” for November!  For the entire month of November, Sansar (Authentic Indian Cuisine Restaurant), located at 2220 First Street, will give Our Savior Lutheran School 20% of pre-tax sales!  This offer is available all day, dine in or take out!  Please visit their website at www.sansarindiancuisine.com for menu items and restaurant hours.  Be sure to bring the flyer with you when you visit the restaurant.  Flyers are available in the back of the church on the triangular shelf, in the school office, or on our website.

Come! Grow with Us.

We invite members of Our Savior to join the school on Thursday mornings at 8:35 a.m. for our weekly chapel service.  Our chapel is led by Linda, with special messages from faculty and staff of OSLM and members of the Senior Staff.   Additionally, each grade leads a chapel service once during the school year.

Good News from Scrip

Beginning in December, Safeway gift cards will once again be available through our Scrip program!  Gift cards will be available in $25 and $100 denominations.  We are able to purchase these cards at a 3% discount which, in most cases, is more beneficial than the escrip rebate which is between 1% and 4% depending on the amount you spend each month.  Please be advised that purchases made with a Safeway gift card are not eligible for accumulation for any other charitable giving (escrip), rewards, rebate, airline miles, or awards program.

Stop by the Scrip table today to see all of the gift cards and certificates that are available through this fundraising program!

Attention:  Ladies of Our Savior!  You are invited to a special evening to celebrate the beginning of Advent.  On November 29 at 7 p.m. join us in the gym for Advent by Candlelight for a time of quiet reflection and fellowship.  As in past years, we are looking for ladies to host a table of six.  If you would like to be a hostess, please supply a guest list to Kathy Newman or Carol Clobes.  [A hostess decorates a holiday table and prepares a dessert.]  If you would like to attend (without being a hostess), please contact either Kathy or Carol or sign up after the worship service on Sundays.  Please call Kathy if you have any questions.

Drop and Shop

The cheerleaders want to offer a service to the families of OSL (and raise some $’s to buy items for their December visit to Shepherd’s Gate) by babysitting Our Savior Lutheran children (Preschool through 4th grade) in the gym on Saturday, December 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Older siblings are welcome as long as they are OSL children as well.  All of the Cheerleaders, Mrs. Bortnem and Mrs. Cortez will be present to babysit / supervise.  They will be watching the children while parents go off and do their Christmas shopping!!  They will also be offering Christmas wrapping services on a donation basis.

The cost for babysitting will be $5.20/hour per child.  There will be fun things for the kids to do while they wait for their parents to return.  A snack will be provided, but the child should come with their own lunch if they are planning on staying for several hours.  Questions?  Contact Laura Cortez.
