Senior Pastor elect, Jerry McNamara, and his wife Mary Beth are visiting us this morning.  We have planned Cottage Meetings at 10:30 a.m.  All confirmed members of the congregation are invited to meet with their Elder during Sunday School hour to discuss the spiritual and ministry future of OSLM.  We will be divided into five groups based on the existing Elders’ groups.

Signs will be posted designating classrooms.

Pastor McNamara will be visiting each of the five groups to get your ideas about his ministry among us.  Sunday School and Pastor’s Class will be meeting during this time; however, the Adult, Young Adult, and High School Youth Bible classes as well as Heart to Heart are canceled so members can attend the meetings.

Plan to participate in this important visit by the Pastor we have Called to serve us.

CONNECT Student Ministries would like to thank everyone who contributed to this year’s Oktoberfest!  It was a huge success!  When all was said and done, we profited over $2200.00 towards the Mission Trip.  Thrivent has agreed to match $1600.00 of that amount, bringing us to a total of over $3800.00!!!   Our goal in fundraising for the entire year is about $7500.00 which would enable us to cut the cost in half for our student participants.  We will be doing another fundraiser in the Spring to raise the rest of these funds.  Thank you so much for your support and generous giving!!

Our Savior Lutheran Men’s Team has a game at 9:00 p.m. on Oct. 17.

The Co-ed Team plays on October 21 at 7:45 p.m.

The Christian Reading Club meets on Tuesday, October 18,  at 7 p.m. in Room 8.

All interested readers are invited to attend.  The book discussion will be “90 Minutes in Heaven”

by Don Piper, ISBN 0-7394-5393-9.

High Schoolers and Adults:  If you play a brass instrument and would like to join our Brass Ensemble, join us for rehearsal on Wednesday, October 19, from 7 – 8 p.m. in the sanctuary.  New members are welcome!

FROM OUR SCHOOL

Fall Fun Fest

The annual Fall Fun Fest is coming!  This year’s Fall Fun Fest is on Saturday, October 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  This is a wonderful harvest celebration and fellowship opportunity for school parents.  Be sure to invite family and friends, as well.  There will be game booths, a jumper, bake sale, lots of prizes, and of course, food!

If there are parents who have not yet volunteered to help, we could use all the assistance we can get to make this day a success!

Concrete Progress

On Monday, the concrete will be poured in the front of building C (and a patch repaired in front of the church narthex).  Then additional plants will get planted next to the trees – and it’s complete!

Again, thanks to Randy Hall for all of his work (and to Sara and the family for giving Randy time away from his family to allow him to volunteer to complete this project).  It looks great already even without the concrete!

SCRIP Volunteer Needed

In order to continue participating in the SCRIP program, as a non-profit organization, we need to have a volunteer coordinate the program.  This job would entail being available to sell SCRIP to parents and replenish the SCRIP supplies.  The bookkeeping process would continue to be handled by the accounting office (Carla Gomes).  The selling time could be arranged to accommodate your schedule (or you could arrange to have other volunteers sell SCRIP at various times throughout the week).  If this is an area you might be willing to serve, please contact Joe Ryno or Dennis Dirks at the OSLS office.

CHAPEL:  Come! Grow with Us.

We invite members of Our Savior Lutheran to join the school on Thursday mornings at 8:35 a.m. for our weekly chapel service.  Our chapel is led by Linda Greenhagen, with special messages from faculty and staff of OSLM and members of the Senior Staff.   Additionally, each grade leads a chapel service once during the school year.

The Cheerleaders of Our Savior School are going to have their first Bake Sale on Monday, October 31, at 3:15 p.m.  Proceeds will go to Hurricane Relief funds.

5th Annual Talent Show and Ice Cream Social is on Sunday, November 6, at 2 p.m.  Previous years’ performances have included piano, guitar, vocals, stunt acts, drums, accordions, poem reading, ukulele, juggling, comedy, magic, gymnastics, and dance.  Those interested in performing, please contact Don Young during fellowship time, by phone, or email.

Concordia University in Irvine offers Preview Days each school year for prospective students and their parents.  Interested students (high school and transfer) can stay overnight and get linked with current students to get a glimpse of residence life.  The day program includes opportunities to meet with administrators and faculty, attend chapel, ask questions of a panel of current students, and learn more about the admission and financial aid processes.  The fall Preview Days are November 10 – 11.  (Winter and spring dates are February 13 and April 7.)  If you have questions or would like more information, contact Kahana Smith, Outreach Coordinator, at 949-854-8002, ext. 117; or kahana.smith@cui.edu; or go to www.cui.edu and click on Prospective Students.

Craft Boutique on November 12 at Our Savior.  The time is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  If you would like to reserve a table, registration forms are available in the Church office.

The family of Marion Sievert thanks the people of Our Savior for their prayers and for the many cards sent to Marion for her enjoyment over the past several years.

Attention:  Ladies of Our Savior!  You are invited to a special evening to celebrate the beginning of Advent.  On November 29 at 7 p.m. join us in the gym for Advent by Candlelight for a time of quiet reflection and fellowship.  As in past years, we are looking for ladies to host a table of six.  If you would like to be a hostess, please supply a guest list to Kathy Newman or Carol Clobes.  [A hostess decorates a holiday table and prepares a dessert.]  If you would like to attend (without being a hostess), please contact either Kathy or Carol or sign up after the worship service on Sundays.  Please call Kathy if you have any questions.
