Senior Pastor elect, Jerry McNamara, and his wife Mary Beth will be visiting us this coming weekend.  We have planned two opportunities for you to meet them and speak with them.

[1] Saturday evening, October 15, Open House, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the ECDC.  Dessert and coffee will be provided.  The McNamaras will be on hand to meet those who come.  At 7 p.m. a general questions and interview time will take place.  This will be an informal time with hopefully meaningful but brief conversation with our Pastor elect.

[2] Cottage Meetings, Sunday, October 16, at 10:30 a.m.  All confirmed members of the congregation are invited to meet with their Elder during Sunday School hour to discuss the spiritual and ministry future of OSLM.  We will be divided into five groups based on the existing Elders’ groups.  Pastor McNamara will be visiting each of the five groups to get your ideas about his ministry among us.

Pastor’s Class will be meeting during this time; however, the Adult, Young Adult, and High School Youth Bible classes as well as Heart to Heart will be canceled so members can attend the meetings.

Plan to participate in this important visit by the Pastor we have Called to serve us.

FROM OUR SCHOOL

F.A.M.E. (Fine Arts Mini-Experience) Created and introduced by Bay Area teacher and resident, Kathryn Sherrod, Fine Arts Mini Experience is designed to add a Fine Art curriculum to the K-8th school program. For our campus, it is equivalent to an “in-house” assembly program financially supported by OSLS P.T.O. and presented by volunteer parents assisting our F.A.M.E. coordinator, Jayne Managan.

Currently there are three programs held each year introducing the entire student body to an accomplished composer and his/her style of music and historical setting, and an artist with his/her technique and artistic medium. Each classroom is treated to its own forty minute, grade appropriate presentation given in a very lively first-person style, incorporating class participation, hands-on art work, and follow up information for home. More information on F.A.M.E. can be found on its website at www.fameforkids.com

This year FAME program includes:

●OCTOBER: Water Lilies by Claude Monet & "The Swan" from Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens

●JANUARY: The Fifer by Edouard Manet & Stars & Stripes Forever by John Phillip Sousa

●MAY: George Washington by Gilbert Stuart & Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key

CHAPEL:  Come! Grow with Us.

We invite members of Our Savior Lutheran to join the school on Thursday mornings at 8:35 a.m. for our weekly chapel service.  Our chapel is led by Linda Greenhagen, with special messages from faculty and staff of OSLM and members of the Senior Staff.   Additionally, each grade leads a chapel service once during the school year (for example 6th grade will be leading chapel on October 13th).

Our theme for the year is Come!  Grow with Us.  Under that theme we have different emphases each month such as “planting”, “roots”,  nourishment”, “growth”, “examples”,  “growth stunters”, “the cure”, and “blooming and harvesting”.

Join us for a lively time of worship.  You can act like a child and no one will notice!

There is a new resource on the web which houses a collection of LCMS Pastor Sermons at the Lutheran Devotional Corner.  Their web address is http://lutherandevotionalcorner.info.

The intention of the site is to offer church members a place to use sermons as devotions, but also to allow those who are homebound and have Internet access to have a means of worship and devotion as well.

The Christian Reading Club meets on October 18 at 7 p.m. in Room 8.  All interested readers are invited to attend.  The book discussion will be “90 Minutes in Heaven” by Don Piper, ISBN 0-7394-5393-9.

Concordia University in Irvine offers Preview Days each school year for prospective students and their parents.  Interested students (high school and transfer) can stay overnight and get linked with current students to get a glimpse of residence life.  The day program includes opportunities to meet with administrators and faculty, attend chapel, ask questions of a panel of current students, and learn more about the admission and financial aid processes.  The fall Preview Days are November 10 – 11.  (Winter and spring dates are February 13 and April 7.)  If you have questions or would like more information, contact Kahana Smith, Outreach Coordinator, at 949-854-8002, ext. 117; or kahana.smith@cui.edu; or go to www.cui.edu and click on Prospective Students.

Attention:  Ladies of Our Savior!  You are invited to a special evening to celebrate the beginning of Advent.  On November 29 at 7 p.m. join us in the gym for Advent by Candlelight for a time of quiet reflection and fellowship.  As in past years, we are looking for ladies to host a table of six.  If you would like to be a hostess, please supply a guest list to Kathy Newman or Carol Clobes.  [A hostess decorates a holiday table and prepares a dessert.]  If you would like to attend (without being a hostess), please contact either Kathy or Carol or sign up after the worship service on Sundays.  Please call Kathy if you have any questions.
