THE GREEN SHEET

Welcome to Our Savior Lutheran Ministries

October 2, 2005

Church Office Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

˜ Heart to Heart is a Bible study and informal Worship time held in the Sanctuary.  Steve Christopher is leading the class.  The topic:  Living in the Vineyard.

The Gospel of Mark  Actions speak louder than words.”  This seems to be the motto Mark had in mind as he wrote his gospel, for he focuses primarily on Jesus’ deeds.  Come and join us as we study this gospel where Christ is portrayed as the servant of God.  Our goal will be to use Jesus as our model so that we can learn how to live for God and die to self.  Lou Bertolini is the instructor. Class meets in Room 17.

Pastor’s Class  A new session of the “Pastor’s Class,” taught by Pastor Brewer is in Room 18.  This class is open to all who are interested in hearing and discussing the Lutheran perspective of the Christian faith.  It will continue for several weeks, concluding with the reception of new members on November 20th.

Young Adult Bible Class meets in Room 9.  Anyone ages 18 - 30ish welcome.  Lauren Bortnem leads the class.   Topic:  The Book of James.

˜ The High School Youth meet in the Youth Room.  Youth Director Brett Bortnem leads the class.

˜ The Junior High School Class [grades 7 and 8] meets in Room 10.  Jeff Greenhagen leads the class.

˜ The 5th and 6th graders meet in ECDC to participate as leaders in the Opening for Sunday School.

˜ Sunday School, ages 2 through 4th grade, meets in Building D

Today our students learn about the account of God healing a military leader from a foreign country, based on 2 Kings 5:1-19.  A topic to discuss might focus on God’s care and healing for His children.  Parents might ask, What was the sin in this story?  How did God deal with that sin?  How does Jesus provide eternal healing for us?

Join us for daytime and evening Bible studies, devotionals, and fellowship

FROM OUR SCHOOL

Disney Teacher Awards Nomination Information

Since 1989, the Walt Disney Company has proudly presented the Disney Teacher Awards, saluting outstanding members of the teaching profession.  Specifically, the program honors those teachers whose approaches exemplify creativity in teaching and who inspire a joy of learning in their                 students.

Selection for the Disney Teacher Awards is a two-step process.  The first is a NOMINATING CAMPAIGN.

Anyone can nominate any K-12 teacher for the award between August 15th and October 15th.  In early November, every

teacher nominated receives a congratulatory letter, a letter for the principal, and an application.

The second step is the APPLICATION PROCESS.  The teacher’s nomination letter INVITES them to complete and mail

the application to continue with the process.  Disney Teacher Honorees from every subject field and every level of K-12

teaching are then selected by their peers – former Disney Teacher Honorees and representatives of leading education

associations from across the United States.

Nominations can be made in one of two ways only:

Nominations for this year’s Disney Teacher Awards will be accepted until October 15, 2005.  Can you think of any teacher at OSLS that should be nominated?

Katrina Relief Made Personal –This past weekend two students at Our Savior Lutheran School  put  on a lemonade sale with all proceeds being donated to hurricane victims. They distributed 125 fliers into neighbors'

mailboxes the previous week and spent nearly four hours handing out lemonade.  The grand total for the day was $155.00.

Wow!   They chose to donate these funds to Noah's Wish, an organization which rescues animals during

disasters and cares for them until their owners can make a home again.   Great job!

Progress on the Landscaping in front of building C is that all the trees have been planted.  The next step is the forms will

be placed around the trees and then the cement poured.  Finally, small cover plants will fill up the areas around the trees.

This should be completed within the next couple of weeks.

There is a new resource on the web which houses a collection of LCMS Pastor Sermons at the Lutheran Devotional Corner.  Their web address is http://lutherandevotionalcorner.info.

The intention of the site is to offer church members a place to use sermons as devotions, but also to allow those who are homebound and have Internet access to have a means of worship and devotion as well.
