The Gospel of Mark  Actions speak louder than words.”  This seems to be the motto Mark had in mind as he wrote his gospel, for he focuses primarily on Jesus’ deeds.  Come and join us as we study this gospel where Christ is portrayed as the servant of God.  Our goal will be to use Jesus as our model so that we can learn how to live for God and die to self.  Lou Bertolini is the instructor. If you would like to make a real difference in someone’s life, the Livermore READ Project is seeking additional volunteer tutors to help motivated adults improve their basic reading and writing skills.  A FREE tutor training will provide you with all the skills you’ll need.  The next training will be held at the Livermore Library on Monday, October 10th, from 7 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday, October 15th, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  For more information, or to register for the training, call the READ Project at 373-5507

Asbury United Methodist Church,  4743 East Avenue in Livermore,  is hosting the Red Cross in a Livermore community blood drive.  It will be on Friday, October 14, from 1:30 until 7:00 p.m.

Please help out by signing up to donate blood.  The process takes about an hour and, as always, there are snacks and refreshments after you donate.  You must be 17 years old or older, and be in good health.  They will have “Alex” there (which is optional!), a machine that can remove the equivalent of two units of blood in one sitting.  That gives them twice as much blood product, and you only have to give once (and don’t have to come back for four months!).

To sign up, please use one of the following methods:

·          Sign up at http://www.givelive.org and log in using your email address and birthdate as your password.  The sponsor code should be ASBURY

·          Send a note to blooddrive@asburylive.org and tell what time slot you want (1:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. in 15 minute increments)

·          Call 925-447-1950, extension 7, and leave a message for Tom Petty

Try Marriage Encounter – For a Change!  Looking for a new way to let your spouse know you love them in the midst of your jobs, carpooling the kids, and trying to keep up with your house, pool and yard?  Tell him or her they’re still #1 in your life . . . share a Marriage Encounter Weekend with each other.  The next Lutheran Marriage Encounter weekend will be October 21-23 in Pleasanton.  For information call Greg & Debbie Duncan, 707-447-6353 or visit www.ilme.org.

Start your holiday shopping early at the Craft Boutique on November 12 at Our Savior.  The time is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  If you would like to reserve a table, registration forms are available in the Church office.
