Sr. High Volunteer Service Opportunity & Pool Party --  Attention High School Students!

Set aside some time tomorrow, August 22, before you head back to school and we’ll meet at Our Savior at 9:30 a.m. to volunteer our time and service.  Our church needs some cleanup in lots of places and they can’t wait to have us around for a half day.  Please bring some work gloves with you.  Sign up to attend in the Youth Room and we’ll see you at 9:30!

We’ll provide pizza, at noon, for all of those who helped out!

When we’re done sweating the morning away, cool off at a refreshing pool party starting at 1 p.m. at the Young’s home.  Questions?  Contact Brett at the church office – 447-1246, ext. 261 or brett@osyouth.com.

Please join Tri-Valley Haven, Open Heart Kitchen and the Faithful Fools Street Ministry on Saturday, August 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, 451 K Street, for a one act play called “The Witness.”  Cost is $35 per person.  Proceeds benefit Tri-Valley Haven, Open Heart Kitchen and the Faithful Fools Ministries.  See flyer on bulletin board.

Those who like to sing!  Come to the music room at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 28, to sing for the 9 a.m. service.  Let’s put our best foot forward (maybe our best voice?) that day as Pastor John Denninger and his wife Connie visit.

After the 9 a.m. service on August 28 we will have a reception to thank Dee Christopher for her long and faithful service as our Director of Family Ministries.  A basket will be available in which to put your cards, good wishes and remembrances.

The congregation is invited at 10:45 a.m. on August 28, after the reception for Dee, for conversation with Pastor Denninger.  This time should serve us well as a time to get to know the Denningers and for them to learn to know us a little better.  There will be no Sunday school or adult classes that day.

The Church Office is in the process of updating the Church Directory.  If you have had any changes to your address, phone number, or email address, please let the office know as soon as possible –

447-1246, ext. 259 or 230, or at oslc@pacbell.net.  Thanks!

The Early Childhood Development Center is looking for students who would be willing to come in one hour a day, Monday through Friday, to disinfect our toys and do some light cleaning.  Must be 13 years old and have a work permit.  Call Sara Hall at 447-2082 if interested.  The hour you work is flexible.

Thank you for your continued prayers for our preschool.  If you know of anyone looking for a preschool, please let them know we have a few openings for our fall session which begins the day after Labor Day.

Diners’ Club is starting up again with a tropical potluck picnic at the Swift home on Saturday, September 24, at 4 p.m.  Sign up after church, with Charles or Jo Ann Swift, today or on the next three Sundays.  A sign-up sheet will be available in the gym.

Diners’ Club is a monthly dinner gathering in the homes of members and friends for the purpose of fun and Christian fellowship.

Member Nancy Mueller, who recently moved to Alturas, sent the following greetings:  “The move was blessed and the only hardship was the distance and hours in travel.  I am maintaining my membership with OSLM as my home congregation.  There is not a Lutheran Missouri Synod congregation in Alturas.  Pray that mission outreach for the spreading of the Gospel will be possible here.

There is an invitation to anyone who is traveling in this area to come by, stay a night or two, give a call.

                           Information in the church office.

Fellowship Bowling League

Our church has been invited to participate in the “Inter-denominational” Bowling League at Granada

Time for the Men’s Retreat! – at Redwood Christian Park  in the Santa Cruz Mountains on the weekend of September 16-18.

This year’s theme is “The Ministry of Encouragement,” based on Hebrews 10:23-25.  Our main speaker is Pete Feigal, a Lutheran brother from Minnesota, who is a walking miracle of God’s sustaining power.  He has battled MS for 17 years as well as clinical depression.  He will share his story with us of how God and fellow Christians have been a vital force of support in his life.  You will be inspired!

Cost is $135 for “cabin” accommodations. This includes five meals and all related program costs

There will also be an optional Golf Tournament held on Friday morning if you would like to participate.  Golfing cost is $65 and we can even make up our own foursomes from Our Savior.

To sign up, please pick up a registration form from the church office, the table on Sunday morning, or see Steve Christopher.  Questions?  Give Steve a call in the church office.

Do you need a Marriage Encounter Weekend?  Probably NOT.  Do you deserve a Marriage Encounter Weekend?

YES.  Most Definitely!  The next Lutheran Marriage Encounter weekend will be October 21-23 in Pleasanton.  For information call Greg & Debbie Duncan, 707-447-6353 or visit www.ilme.org.
