NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL

PTO AUCTION – Set aside the date of April 29th for the Annual PTO Auction.  In the past this fundraiser (besides being a great night out!) has purchased playground apparatus, backstops, computers, digital cameras and projectors, etc.  We have numerous suggestions as to what can be funded for this year.  But it all starts with YOU being at the Auction.  Further information will be coming your way soon, but keep this date clear à   April 29, 2006 – AUCTION

CHAPEL We invite all members to join us for our

weekly chapel worship on Thursdays beginning

approximately at 8:40 a.m.  Our overall chapel

theme is “Come! Grow with us.”

This month’s sub-theme is “The Cure”.

Chapel on April 27 is “The Gardener’s GOOD NEWS” with Brett Bortnem.

Don’t miss “THE ROCK SLINGER AND HIS GREATEST HIT” during the Sunday School / Bible class hour on April 30.  The children’s choirs are delighted to present this musical about David and Goliath and invite everyone to attend!

Be sure to say “yes” when one of our callers invites you to come to the SECOND ALL-CHURCH BIBLE STUDY next Sunday, April 30, at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.  Pastor Brewer will be leading us as we continue our “Building Up, Reaching Out” campaign by looking at what the Word of God has to say to us about “How to Improve Your Love Life.

Everyone is also invited to the PIZZA DINNER, preceding the Bible study, at 5:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Everything will be provided, so just bring yourselves.  Childcare will be available during the Bible study.

Yes, the victims of Katrina still need our help.  There is still so much to be done.  Stop by the table at the coffee hour this morning and see Jan Pfeifer to donate $1 and you will get a special yellow and purple “wristband” with the imprint Reaching Out in Love – Hurricane Relief.  All proceeds go to support our Lutheran Schools on the Gulf Coast affected by the hurricanes.

As you are prayerfully considering your BUILDING UP – REACHING OUT commitment, please consider using the Simply Giving® program for your contributions.

Through the Simply Giving® program, your gifts are made through a pre-authorized withdrawal from your bank account.  You determine the frequency of your automatic gift – weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly – the option is yours.  Your gift is deposited into the OSLM bank account on the same day it is withdrawn from your account.

The Simply Giving® program is a reliable, safe way to move your stewardship plan into action.  It allows you to share your gifts through planned giving and activates your generosity into ongoing stewardship.  Because your gift is given consistently, you won’t need to play “catch-up” at year-end or worry about forgotten checkbooks or missed Sunday offerings.  But you’re not the only one that benefits.  Our congregation benefits from steady, more predictable revenues throughout the year, more efficient bookkeeping, and greater confidence in meeting our financial commitments.

Please see Joe Ryno for Enrollment Forms or any questions that you might have.

THE CHRISTIAN READING CLUB meets on Tuesday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in Room 8.  All interested readers are invited to attend.  The book discussion will be “God’s Story” Finding Meaning for Your Life through Knowing God, by Anne Graham Lotz.  ISBN 0-8499-3758-2.

A check for $1,600 MATCHING FUNDS was recently received from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in support of the Youth Servant Auction for the Cuba, New Mexico, Mission Trip.  Thanks to all of you who helped support this program.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is scheduled for Sunday, July 30,

through Thursday, Aug. 3, from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.

We are looking for youth (6th grade and up) and adults to help in all areas including teaching, music, skits, crafts, games, meal preparation, registration and publicity!

Sign up to volunteer for VBS 2006 in the gym during coffee hour or online at www.oslm.net.

As we continue with the BUILDING UP – REACHING OUT campaign and with the stock market up this year, it may be an advantage to a church member to donate stock that has appreciated in value to the church rather than cash.  You will be able to claim a charitable deduction in the amount of the current value of the donated stock.  You will also avoid paying taxes on the appreciated value of the donated stock.  Furthermore, the church pays no capital gains tax when it sells the stock.

Q.  Joseph was sold by his brother for what amount?
