Years ago Our Savior had the tradition of taking a loaf of “homemade bread” to the homes of those who visited with us in church on a Sunday.

This month Our Savior will begin a similar program of responding to our Sunday morning visitors which will be called BREAD MAKERS AND BREAD TAKERS.  A loaf of bread and a package of dry soup will be left as a gift along with information about our church.

Two kinds of volunteers are needed for this outreach effort:

1)  Bread Makers – those who would make a loaf of “homemade bread” [bread machines are okay] and deliver it to the church office by 2 p.m. on Monday.

2)  Bread Takers – members who would take the bread and soup in a special bag to the home of the visitors between 3 and 6 p.m.  Address and directions will be provided by the church office.

We probably will need 2-3 Bread Makers and 2-3 Bread Takers per week.  You can do both jobs if you want!

To sign up or for more info, contact Steve Christopher at 447-1246, x 228.  Special training meeting on Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. in Room 8.

Concordia University Capsule

Concordia University’s Christ College is now registering schools and families for Careers for Christ, a one day event on Friday, January 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The purpose of this special event is to encourage 7th and 8th graders to consider careers in church work.  There will be worship, music, skits, guest speakers and more.  Registration is $8 which includes a T-shirt.  Chaperones can attend free of charge.  For reservations and additional information, please call Carrie Fick at 949-854-8002, ext. 1407 or email carrie.fick@cui.edu.

Open Heart Kitchen

This past Wednesday, 250 people were fed by a staff of three volunteers, one from Our Savior, who cooked, served, and cleaned up.  Asbury Methodist Church provides these meals on the fourth Wednesday of every month.  If you would like to help, please call Geneva Humphrey for more information.  She can also put you in touch with those in charge.

The 8th Annual Crab Feed is taking place on Saturday, February 4, from 5 – 9 p.m. in our gym.  Enjoy All-You-Can-Eat Crab, Caesar Salad, Pasta, Garlic Bread, and Dessert.  There will be music, dancing, and lots of family fun!

Tickets are available in the church office during the week.  Costs for tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 5 – 10.  Children ages 4 and under are free.  Buy your tickets early.  Seating is limited.

Donate Your Car to Lutheran Blind Mission.  If you are thinking of selling or trading in that old car, truck, boat, trailer, or  RV, why not donate it instead to Lutheran Blind Mission and help blind people see Jesus!  They’ll arrange to have your vehicle picked up at no charge by a professionally licensed, bonded, and insured towing company.  Most vehicles are accepted, even if they don’t run, in all 50 states.  Call Lutheran Blind Mission at 1-888-215-2455 to donate or for more information.

Women of Our Savior…

February 10-12 is RETREAT WEEKEND, a time when the women of Our Savior will travel to Santa Cruz to unwind, enjoy the peace and beauty of the ocean, have fun and fellowship with other women of faith, and spend some much-needed time in worship and prayer.

This year we’ll be staying at a new location – the Villa Maria del Mar retreat center.  You may view the retreat center online at www.villamariadelmar.org.  Most of the accommodations will house 2 women per room, but there are a limited number of single rooms available that will be given out on a first come, first served basis.  The cost of the weekend is $190 which pays for 2 nights lodging and 6 meals.

Look for the reservation table after the service today or call Lynn in the church office at 447-1246, ext. 230. Reservations will be taken until January 8.

Please consider joining us for a relaxing, fun-filled weekend!
